I’m Ruth, a professional vocal coach based in the North West of England. From jazz and soul, pop and rock, to musical theatre, I’ve taught singing to students at every level for over 13 years. Whether you are an established or aspiring performer, together we can find and fine-tune your voice.
For more than two decades, I’ve performed, sung, written songs and coached singers from promising hobbyists to seasoned professionals. In that time I’ve learned what works and what doesn't and I know first-hand how demanding a career in music recording or theatre performance can be. Today I offer singing lessons and other voice training services from my home studio in Cheshire and online. I am also a regular visiting lecturer at UCLan, which recently ranked No 1 in the UK for Drama and Dance (2020).
My goal is to offer vocal coaching that delivers results - for talented youngsters, established artists and everyone in between.
To support that, I’ve worked to really understand the voice and put theory into practice throughout my career. Along the way, I have been lucky enough to have studied with some of the top, international voice researchers.
In 2021 I certified as a Vocal Health First Aider, which enables me to give my students the best advice when it comes to their own voice maintenance and training. I am an ideal ‘first-point-of-call' for anybody with vocal health concerns and I have a good network of professionals to reach out to for further assessment and diagnosis where appropriate.

Every voice is unique, every performer has their own style and I love seeing people from all walks of life grow into their vocal identities. Some benefit from regular one-to-one coaching, whilst others are professionals who may need short-term support to develop their repertoire or optimise their technique.

It's always been an ambition of mine to be able to sing but I put it off for years. Ruth’s friendly approach made me feel calm and comfortable. She taught me how to control my breath using different techniques such as lip trills, scales, posture and tension release exercises. After a few weeks of learning the basics we then found my voice. Ruth quickly diagnoses areas you need to work on so I constantly feel like I am improving.

I also teach from Unit 26, a modern recording and rehearsal studio near Media City and I can organise professional studio or recording sessions at various studios depending on your specific requirements.
I like to send out infrequent emails with details of specific events or useful information. Rest assured that you will not get bombarded daily, or even weekly but only as and when there is something useful to share.
